How to wash silk?
- Preparation: Start by turning your silk bedding inside out and close the zipper. In addition, a laundry bag is recommended.
- Separation: Keep your silk bedding separate from other textiles, especially those with sharp zippers or hard materials that can scratch the silk.
- Temperature: Use cold water to wash silk bedding. Hot water can damage the fibers and cause shrinkage or loss of color.
- Mild detergent: Use a mild detergent intended for delicate fabrics. Avoid bleach or strong chemicals as they can damage the silk.
- Hand wash or gentle wash: You can either wash the silk bedding by hand or use a gentle wash in your washing machine. If you use a washing machine, choose a gentle program with a low spin to avoid stretching or damaging the fabric.
- Rinse: Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue. You can repeat the rinse several times to make sure all the soap is gone.
- Drying: Avoid twisting or stretching the silk bedding while drying. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and then let it air dry on a flat surface or hang it on a hanger. Avoid direct sunlight as it may cause discoloration.
- Ironing: If necessary, you can iron your silk bedding on low heat, preferably inside out to avoid direct contact with the heat.
