Silk washing instructions
How do I wash silk?
Silk bedding can be washed at 30° on a gentle cycle with an enzyme-free detergent, and it should be washed separately. Since silk is a fine and lightweight material, it does not tolerate tumble drying and should always air dry. Also remember to turn the bedding inside out and close the zipper before washing to preserve quality.
Silk is a delicate material that requires gentle handling both during washing and general care. In this post, we go through how to best care for your silk pillowcase so it stays beautiful for as long as possible.
TIP: Always turn the bedding or pillowcase inside out and close the zipper. This way you protect the smooth surface of the silk. Feel free to use a laundry bag designed for silk.
Hand wash:
If you wash silk by hand, we recommend rinsing it thoroughly and gently dabbing it dry. Additionally, it is recommended to let it hang freely to dry. Avoid soaking silk, as there is a risk of streaks, color bleeding, and transfer.
Washing machine:
If you use a washing machine, you should always choose low temperatures and a delicate wash program. Preferably avoid detergent altogether, but if necessary, choose a mild, enzyme-free product specially designed for silk and delicate wash.
Stains:
Never rub stains on silk, as this can easily create "dusty" or dull areas in the fabric. Oil and grease stains can be particularly difficult to remove and should often be left to professional cleaning.
Stains can be pretreated before washing with a little concentrated liquid delicate detergent or mild hand dishwashing detergent. However, be aware that colored silk fabrics may be more prone to streaks. Let the product work for about 10 minutes before washing the silk.
We recommend Tenestar detergent. Can be purchased here.
